Mastopexy or Breast Uplift is a surgical procedure to improve the shape of the female breast. As part of the aging process or after breastfeeding, the breasts will often drop and lose their youthful appearance.
There are currently several techniques for Reduction Mastopexy. They all aim to elevate the nipple, reshape the breast mound and reduce excess breast skin. The exact approach and nature of the surgery depends on a combination of patient expectation and the native tissues. Mr. Bloom will discuss these options with you at your first consultation and together you will choose which of these options best suit your needs.
Mastopexy is performed in a hospital under general anaesthesia.
In general scars can vary from a small incision in the fold underneath the breast if an implant is required, to an incision around the nipple and possibly between the two.
Complications include poor scarring, loss of nipple sensation, asymmetry, loss of breast shape and the need for minor revisional surgery.
In most situations you will able to go home on the day of your surgery, however the length of your hospital stay will depend on your general health, the extent of the procedure, and your surgeon's advice.
Returning to normal activities is an individual matter, but most people return to work within two to four weeks and to more vigorous exercise after six weeks.
To be able to drive a vehicle you must be comfortable, off all strong pain killers and moving freely, this can vary from one to four weeks after the operation.
Following the surgery you will need to wear a supportive bra for six weeks.
